Mechelen, Belgium

our first day in Belgium
we woke up to a yummy breakfast of
hard cheeses, cold cuts, homemade bread, and fresh juice

we chatted with our fellow bed and breakfast guests
a friendly Dutch couple with a 14 month old blond, blond boy
he and isaac played trucks

we piled in our car
(which is named Pearl, for future reference)
and made our way to Mechelen

it was the coldest day of our trip and i was cranky
but aaron and the boys were great

this is the government building of Mechelen
aaron took this panoramic pic from the inner courtyard
4 different wings of the same building
from 4 different time periods
in 4 different styles

the front of the government building facing the market square...

 the market square!
loads of stalls selling everything from trousers to oysters to gorgeous strawberries
which i was planning on buying on our way back to the car
but alas, the stalls (and the strawberries) were all gone
i was bummed

this intricately carved pulpit was in the cathedral
we got to hear the bells chime too

Het Anker Brewery
we lunched here and then aaron took a tour
while the boys and i explored a bit

peek-a-boo!

typical Belgian architecture
isn't it lovely?

these delicious chocolates are called pralines
truffles have no fillings, just melt in your mouth chocolate
both are delectable!

we left Mechelen with
specialty beer
specialty chocolates
and two tired boys
